How to choose and verify a chiropractor in Los Angeles
A short checklist for checking a California chiropractor's license and asking the right questions before your first visit.
If you think you are having a medical emergency, call 911 now. Do not use this form for urgent symptoms.
What it is
Chiropractors in California are licensed by the California Board of Chiropractic Examiners. A license means the person has met state education and examination requirements. It does not tell you how a provider practices, so it helps to ask questions.
Who it may help
Anyone looking for a chiropractor, including people who were hurt in an accident, can use the same checks. This site does not choose or recommend a provider for any visitor.
What to expect
Before your first visit, look up the license on the Board's website and check for public disciplinary action. At the visit expect questions about your history, an exam and a conversation about a treatment plan, how long it may last and what it will cost.
Risks to understand
Be cautious about anyone who promises a cure or a specific result, pressures you to prepay for a long block of visits, or discourages you from seeing a medical doctor when you have serious symptoms.
Insurance and questions to ask
Ask how the provider handles insurance and medical payments coverage, whether they treat on a lien, what the fees are, how many visits they expect and how they decide when care is finished. Get fees and the care plan in writing.
